This Museum Monday, we invite you to step inside more than seven centuries of history at the Hospice Comtesse in Lille. Nestled in the historic heart of Lille, the Hospice Comtesse began its story in 1237 when Jeanne, Countess of Flanders, founded a hospital to care for the sick, the poor, and pilgrims passing through the city. For centuries, this remarkable institution served the community, adapting to changing needs before finally ending its healthcare role in 1940. Today, the former hospital has been transformed into Lille's museum of art and history, where visitors can explore centuries of regional heritage within its atmospheric historic buildings. Among its treasures is an impressive ceramic collection spanning the thirteenth to the twentieth century. From archaeological finds and glazed earthenware to religious ceramics and decorative tiles from Old Lille, the collection offers a fascinating journey through the history of pottery in northern France and beyond.
